Reflection & Clarity

Shards of glass can cut and wound or magnify a vision. Mosaic celebrates brokenness and the beauty of being brought together.

Our survival, the vitality of the planet depends on mental flexibility and emotional acuity. Hands raised. Hands put to work. We can improvise. We can create without a map. And we don't have to live in isolation. The gift of an attentive life is the ability to recognize patterns and find our way toward a unity built on empathy. Empathy becomes the path that leads us from the margins to the center of concern.

The pattern is the thing.

The beauty made belongs to everyone. We all bow.

Terry Tempest Williams, Finding Beauty in a Broken World

Jack is home for the weekend and, not wanting to waste a beautiful sunny morning, we went to Big Bay Town Park for a meander through the ice field. The clarity of the ice this year is mind-blowing....nearly every piece was crystal clear.

The reflection of the sky in the ice was remarkable— it swirled through out the ice shards like bright blue ribbons.

The ice was strewn along the entire beach, pieces and parts of a once greater whole yet stunning in its independence. The nuance of light, color and texture was hidden in the unbroken beginning; it was only in the fracturing that its beauty was released.

Movement and air, suspended in ice, waiting for the coming thaw for release.
